Empowering Excellence with GCS Supply

For the last 10 years, GCS Supply based in Lemont, IL, has been an actively engaged NetPlus member, eager to learn and grow. They have not missed an Annual Meeting since they joined the group, and they always make a point to gain as much knowledge, make as many new connections, and strengthen as many partnerships as possible.

NetPlus had a chance to connect with GCS Supply’s NetPlus liaison and General Manager Vince Zawaski to find out how they make the most of the Annual Meeting and empower excellence within their business. 

 

NETPLUS: What made you want to join NetPlus, and what keeps you in the group today?

GCS SUPPLY: We joined because we needed help being able to buy at a higher level. Being a small company in a major market like Chicago, we needed to compete with larger distributors. NetPlus came highly regarded to us and looked like a great fit for our established branch. We stay in NetPlus because not only have they helped us grow with suppliers, but they have been a great advocate for all distributors in the group. Jennifer and all the employees give their time and attention to making all of us better as a whole. The staff is top notch! 

 

NETPLUS: What value have you found in programs like NetPlus Academy, Growth Plus, and NetPlus Perks?

GCS SUPPLY: NetPlus Academy gives us an opportunity to see firsthand the operations of the suppliers that we deal with and new ones that NetPlus continues to grow with. When we started using the Growth Plus program, it initiated a lot of help from our suppliers. It helps us to track the progress we intend and keep us on track to grow business with suppliers. Plus, it give us more opportunities to market ourselves. Perks is always a great value to our growth as a company, especially the added networking with other distributors in the NetPlus family.

 

NETPLUS: How have you learned to be nimble in recent years during uncertain economic times?

GCS SUPPLY: This has become a constant in our market, and we have learned to pivot on anything and everything. The start of all the data centers, cold storage, and other areas we can expand on have kept us busy. We have expanded our reach, as well, and must accommodate to shipping direct or from our facility and suppliers. We have also expanded our inventory and products we sell to gain new customers.

 

NETPLUS: What steps are you taking or plan to take to set your business up for future success?

GCS SUPPLY: We have started with steps to get a new ERP system set up, venture into AI initiatives, and test new avenues of marketing.

 

NETPLUS: This year’s Annual Meeting is focused on the idea of Empowering Excellence. How do you work to empower excellence within your team?

GCS SUPPLY: We do that by fostering a culture of continuous learning, embracing innovation, and prioritizing customer relationships. It involves equipping teams with the right tools and trainings, setting clear goals, and recognizing achievements to motivate and inspire. By focusing on customer service, efficiency, and building trust with clients, you create a foundation for lasting success.

 

NETPLUS: What are the primary goals and most valuable takeaways for your team from the NetPlus Annual Meeting each year?

GCS SUPPLY: Each year there is more we can learn and take away from the Annual Meeting. We try to connect with new and potential suppliers each year that can help in any new aspect we are trying to venture into. We also value the networking and camaraderie with our fellow distributors, which can help us make certain decisions about innovations and new technologies in our industry.

 

NETPLUS: Reflecting on your 10 years of membership, what piece of advice would you offer to someone who’s attending the Annual Meeting for the first time this year?

GCS SUPPLY: First, make some relationships, those can last a lifetime. Second, get with all the vendors you have questions or issues with. Whether it’s for a brief follow-up, or just to grab some information. Third, get to know the staff of NetPlus. They can help you in more ways than you will know. Such a great team and go-between for you and the suppliers.
